Negative Information Reporting Notice

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act of 2003, or FACTA, was passed in December 2003 to help consumers with their credit and help prevent identity theft. This new legislation requires us to give the following notice to members before any "negative information" may be furnished to a national credit reporting agency:

We may report information about your account(s) to credit bureaus. Late payments, missed payments or other defaults on your account(s) may be reflected in your credit report.

Customer ID Program

Carolina Cooperative Federal Credit Union’s Customer Identification Program is designed to protect our members and the credit union from fraudulent and illegal activity when opening an account with the credit union. The Carolina Cooperative Customer Identification Program is a necessary requirement to comply with the USA Patriot Act, International Money Laundering Abatement and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act, and the Customer Identification Program of the USA Patriot Act.

Positive identification of all individuals, businesses, minors and non-US citizens will be required before opening a new member account or additional accounts for existing members. Part of the credit union’s internal screening procedures of members opening new or additional accounts with the credit union, requires the member to provide certain information and some form of government issued photo identification. The requirements are as follows:

  • A copy of a government issued photo form of identification (i.e. driver’s license, military ID card, government employee ID card, passport, visa, permanent resident card, which is either a green card or alien registration receipt card)

  • The full legal name, date of birth and residential street address for individuals (PO boxes are acceptable for mailing address, but not for member identification. For military personnel without a residential street address, an Army PO or Fleet PO Box number is acceptable)

  • Tax Identification Number (for individuals, a social security number, an individual taxpayer identification number, or for businesses an employer identification number)

We ask our members for their full understanding and cooperation with the credit union’s compliance efforts with federal laws designed to battle fraudulent and illegal account activity in financial institutions.
